This blog is an attempt to put reading research based best practices
in a question/conversation forum.
This blog is my EDU839-Learn to Read and Write in the Computer Age Blog.
Since I started at Rhode Island College in late 1980's, I remember so many wonderful, enthusiastic professors that shaped my learning. I want to thank Dr. Rude, Dr. Stieglitz, and Dr. Cordiero for all their knowledge shared, especially their time, talent, and treasure of reading.
Dr. Stieglitz created wonderful research-based practical packets to utilize in the classroom. I would love to have an updated one that he has presently put together. Dr. Stieglitz had a wonderful article about Inner Dialogue that we all do. We all have self-talk. A big part of teaching is having students be cognizant of this inner speaking. Presently I tell the young students...No stinking thinking...just on the nose good thinking! You can do it! Believe in yourself. Good inner thinking is so important for a successful reader!
Thanks for reading this "What Do Good Readers Have In Common?" blog! Good reading strategies that are research-based best practices that work should be shared! Please share any strategies that have really helped students become good readers! Thank you!
Below is an incredible packet that I received from Marilyn McShane Levine, during a school professional development workshop. I have used so many strategies in this packet. My favorite strategy that has been very effective with student's comprehension is the "Clink or Clunk" strategy.
